Indonesia to host 2nd International Conference of the Fisheries Transparency Initiative on 27 April 2017
JAKARTA/BERLIN, 19 October 2016. The Republic of Indonesia and the Fisheries Transparency Initiative (FiTI) are delighted to announce that Indonesia will host the 2nd International FiTI Conference in Bali, Indonesia, on Thursday, 27 April 2017.
The FiTI is a global multi-stakeholder initiative, which aims at enhancing responsible and sustainable fisheries through transparency and participation.
“We all are facing the tremendous task to reform global fisheries in ways that support the sustainable development and food security. An integral part of addressing this challenge is to increase transparency, allowing for better and democratic decision making. Indonesia has been a leader in the establishment of the FiTI and we are very proud to host this important event next year here in Indonesia” said Mr. Aryo Hanggono, representative of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia.
The one-day international conference will gather approx. 300 representatives of governments, businesses, civil society, international organizations, donors and media to highlight the importance of transparency and participation in a sector that is an important source of livelihood for coastal countries all around the world. Amongst others, the conference will adopt the global FiTI Standard, launch the 1st International Board of the FiTI and welcome commitments from other countries.
“This conference will be the key milestone to mark the transition from the current conceptual phase to an ongoing FiTI implementation, allowing coastal countries (and others) to benefit from participating in this voluntary initiative. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Government of Indonesia for this fantastic offering” said Prof. Dr. Peter Eigen, Chair of the International Advisory Group of the Fisheries Transparency Initiative.
Updates on the conference will be regularly provided on the page of the 2nd International Conference.
